They had a chance with Hampden Park when they chose the cheap option and ruined it. Now we don't have the money to redevelop it, so a joint stadium with the rugby team at Murrayfield is the most sensible option. If a country the size of France can have one stadium, then Scotland certainly can follow suit. Time for reality, it comes down to money and one stadium is the answer moving forward.
Best Scottish ground I have been to for atmosphere is tynecastle. Right on the pitch. Of the other European stadia I have visited the San siro and mastalla are also close to the pitch and have great views. Hampden should have been demolished and rebuilt all those years ago with this in mind.
Why are people talking nonsense Hampden is by far the best before for cup soaks on the country, had that big game feel, and the atmosphere is Unreal for the big Scotland games, you will never hear a roast like those when we beat France in 2006, or scored vs Italy in 2007, or the Holland win in 2003, the goals ashlar England last year, short memories, Hampden must stay
Hampden is the home of Scottish football and that should not change, would be an absolute disgrace if they switched to the rugby ground Hampden when full four big Scotland matches is unbeatable.. I vote common sense prevails and any change that they need to do happens at Hampden... This should not be allowed to happen, have some respect for our history
This has got Lawell written all over it. Trying to get Scotland matches to finance Celtic.
@140 The majority care so shut your face and changed your name to simply Ted
This HYS is littered with nonsenseHampden's always empty? Move to Murrayfield (which is bigger)The travel to Hampden is terrible? Clearly never been to Murrayfield! It is atrociousGlasgow is too far away? Edinburgh is really not much closer to anyone!Move to the capital? Who cares! The atmosphere? :'(All the arguments FOR a move to Murrayfield don't even make the slightest sense
Not resigning the two ends when Hampden was re-built in the 90s was an even bigger missed opportunity than Chris Iwelumo against Norway.
Neither, play round the country.
The idea that we should take even more money out of the Scottish game and give it to rugby is perverse.
Bin Hampden. It's a rotten ground for football, the fans are too far from the action. Murrayfield isn't ideal but it's better than Cell Block H.I don't buy into the history and tradition nonsense, it should have no relevance. The future is infinitely more important than the past and I think that's where Scottish football has it wrong. Too conservative/traditionalist and not forward looking.
71. Posted by whats gone wrong I know what has gone wrong. Football did NOT come home. Maybe you should hand your newly purchased waistcoat into the charity shop, or hope for a cheap sale on Ebay.
62. Posted by Missinginstereo Since when did Murrayfield become a dump? Idiotic comment. Maybe the should build a new stadium on top of your bedsit. that would work. Numpskull
132Absolutely Agree HibbyAndy - was in the stadium in Stuttgart in May and its a fantastic stadium with an amazing atmosphere. I'm all for the history and tradition that Hampden brings, but not if it means staying in a stadium which isn't good enough. Seats behind the goal in particular are awful. Redevelopment v required. If that means Murrayfield for short period of time, so be it.
I'd prefer Scotland to play their games at Hampden. As a Scottish football fan I'm not interested in subsidising rugby. But Hampden must be improved and redeveloped like the VfB Stuttgart stadium which was an identical design to Hampden. The end stands were refurbished and brought closer to the pitch and the stadium is now a cauldron with a bigger capacity.
Hampden only has appeal to armchair fans and those stuck in the past, probably Third Lanark fans , bulldoze it, Queens Park can play at Cathkin park and probably get bigger attendances... the 25 supporters could take their dog.
