Shaun Pearson's second half header secured a hard-fought win for Wrexham at National League basement side Braintree.

Wrexham's captain scored his first goal of the season with a powerful header from Luke Summerfield's corner.

Justin Amaluzor had Braintree's best chance but he was denied by Rob Lainton.

Braintree stay bottom without a win while Wrexham move up to second, a point behind leaders Harrogate.

Wrexham manager Sam Ricketts said: "It was really hard to play football, the pitch was really dry and uneven so we couldn't play how we wanted to but ultimately it's as satisfying as any win we have had.

"We had to dig in and keep doing the basics for as long as possible and then off a bit of quality in Summerfield's delivery finally Pearson got his goal."
