@bingo: Winks may not in your opinion be of international quality, yet he was MITM on his only previous game for England.
@10to1thefield: Not that it has anything to do with football. but you are wrong. The 20th Century ended on 31.12.01. The reason for this is that zero never came into common usage until the 7th century. The most common numbering system then in use were Roman numerals, and there was no Roman equivalent of Zero. So 100 years ended in 31.12.101
These games are NOT friendlies. If England finish bottom they get relegated. The normally easy qualification groups for the Euros and the World Cup will be no more. Real danger they might not qualify. Need to avoid bottom of group
442: Paul Brooks. You’re wrong about the yr 2000 being “the last yr of the 20th century”. 1999 was the last yr of that century. The first yr AD was from 0 to 1, so January of yr 1 was the beginning of yr 2. On your fingers count from 1 to 10 beginning with 0 as the first yr. Yes, that right, the end of yr 9 completes 10 yrs. Now add 1,990 yrs to reach 1999. BEEB was right all along.
Winks is nowhere near international quality, no way should he be in the squad.
Great for all of them BUT Sancho is NOT the first player born this century to be selected. He was born in the year 2000 which is the LAST year of the 20th Century not the first of the 21st !! There are 2,000 years in 20 centuries and you have to COMPLETE the final year before the century ends! Yes the first player born in the 2,000s if you must but get your facts right.
Foden is head and shoulders above all of them and is THE true creative talent we are missing (IMO he is a bona fide genius and one of only a few England has ever produced) just can't understand why he isn't being fast-tracked into the seniors. If you're good enough to get game time in Man City's star studded attack at that age you should walk into the England set-up. (ps not a City fan btw)
Why isn’t Southgate also having a look at Davies at Everton, who has just captained the club at 20 yo and has 2 years of premier league experience and lots of games under his belt?
@ 402 "Loftus Cheek played for Chelsea in Europe tonight.Dropped", not dropped he was described as having an injury which ruled him out of selection for England, we can only presume that Chelsea have advised that although he could play last night he needs rest & recovery which will happen during the international break
Why is Lewis Cook not there if we are selecting young up and comers? He is the best of the lot and captained the U21s to World Cup glory.
Although friendlies the coming games are still not that easy. Yes get the next generation game time. Mount has played well the last 10 months and sancho has been up there with the best in Europe with goals and assists. As long as they keep their heads they should do quite well.
The wonder kids Smalling and Jones missing. Will be back in championship where they should h@ve stayed. Where is “diver” Young?
While there are a few questionable choices in here, I continue to applaud the principle. How many decade have over paid 'superstars' been picked on reputation alone, too many, now we are seeing hungry footballers being given a chance to shine. Yes, while England had a nice run to the semis of the World Cup they still got there for the first time in a long time with this principle.
Nice to see young players getting a chance. This is what friendlies are for.
People moaned that talented young stars wasn't being selected, now they're been given a chance people are still moaning..
430. Posted by theprowerwins on"@429 Joe hart has played 9 games for Burnley in all competitions so far this season. NINE. You want to recall a player who has had 2 maybe 3 below average seasons(being generous), for club and country because 9 ok games? "I presume using this method of thought that you don't think James Maddison, Jadon Sancho or Mason Mount should be picked either?
This is the problem with football now, play half decent for a matter of mins and if your English your in the senior England squad. Its too much, far too soon. What's happened to earning a call up. Surely these players should be starting games for their clubs, playing well and regularly before a call up is even considered. There is no progression anymore, just all too rushed and desperate
