I just love that L666ds are so desperate to get in to the Premier League, they'd even have the Championship renamed the Premier League. Cellino, Radrizzani, it doesn't matter the clubs delusion is the gift that keeps on giving.
Totally daft idea. Championship gets quite a bit of TV time nowadays. Premier League is Premier League & should remain so to remain special. And I'm saying that as a fan whose team has made visits to both and may end up back there next season!
I find some of the comments on here unbelievable. When the PL split from the EFL it took most of the money, which caused the issues in the first place. When that happened the C'ship didn't step up, it struggled. The same would be true of Leagues 1 and 2 if this happens. If people don't want these leagues then fair enough, but this will just mean teams, but more money for them. To me this is wrong.
I'm very dubious about this. The PL breaking away caused the problem in the first place and it worked because they could take more money from the EFL leagues and spend it on international stars. If the Championship breaks away it won't bring more money in. Owners buy Championship clubs knowing the riches of the PL if they could make it. Why would Sky pay more money for the rights than they do now?
i bet he wasn't saying this when they were in L1.
461. It's seems pretty obvious the C'ship will make more money if they break away. Don't the top 6 clubs generate more money for the PL? Same with the C'ship and the EFL.And, like I said, when you have control of your product and can market it or make changes how you wish, you make more money. None of these things need evidence, they're reasonable.
463: The Prem negotiates its deal separately at the moment. That wouldn't change. The Prem cut of the money won't be affected by what the C'ship does. All that would be affected would be the cuts of the 3 lower leagues
As a Cardiff supporter I totally agree with this idea. Prem clubs are getting too much money to the detriment of the lower leagues. Something needs to b done. Of course big 6 fans would disagree as they think it's their right to win and be given hangouts that are obscene .
I would advocate a 2-tier PL, with 16 clubs in the top tier. You could then have a mid-season break and even play a mid-season PL cup competition in the seasons without a WC or Euros at the end. Play the cup completion in Asia or America and have European qualification for the winners. 4 tv packages could ensure that a quarter of the games on each package come from the 2nd tier.
458: I wasn't saying that it would be unfair for the Championship to strike it's own deal. My point was that there really needs to be good evidence that lots more money is available before going through trouble involved. I'm not aware of any evidence that there's more money floating about or that the Championship is not getting a square deal.
