Oxford United 3-0 Shrewsbury Town

Oxford United celebrated their 125th anniversary with their biggest League One win of the season as they saw off Shrewsbury Town 3-0 at the Kassam Stadium.

Karl Robinson's side continued their climb up the table as they stretched their unbeaten league run to five games.

Josh Ruffels headed in Tony McMahon's corner after three minutes to give them the perfect start.

McMahon was again the provider 11 minutes later with a right-wing cross that Gavin Whyte buried with a powerful header which Joel Coleman got his hands to but could not keep out.

Wearing the orange-shirted strip that resembled the kit from their old Headington United days, Oxford were comfortable sitting on their two-goal lead, staying solid.

Shrewsbury looked a shadow of the team that had beaten Barnsley 3-1 in midweek, threatening only from set pieces, when Luke Waterfall headed a free-kick wide, then brought a good save out of Simon Eastwood at a corner.

Sub Marcus Browne slotted in Oxford's third four minutes from time after a part-assist from the referee.
