Match ends, Hamilton Academical 1, Livingston 0.
Livingston must be "more cynical" after Hamilton Academical inflicted their second Scottish Premiership defeat in four days, says head coach Gary Holt.
The visitors dominated for long spells, but just two minutes after Mikel Miller was sent off, Mason Bloomfield raced clear and finished past Liam Kelly.
Bobby Burns did hit the bar in stoppage time for Livingston, but they have now fallen from second to sixth.
"We got done with a sucker punch and we need to be wiser," said Holt.
"We need to be cleverer because that's an opportunity late in the game where you have to take one for the team and bring the boy down, then we deal with the repercussions from there."
With St Mirren and Dundee both losing, Hamilton's win now opens up a healthy gap of six points on the bottom two.
Wasteful Livingston punished
Livingston's long unbeaten run was broken by St Johnstone in midweek and they were keen to re-assert themselves from the off. Matthew Kilgallon and Craig Halkett went close with headers and Lamie turned and shot over from inside the area.
McMillan really should have scored from close range after Lamie stabbed the ball across to him, but a poor first touch allowed Accies to clear. Then Pittman found space just inside the box and tested Accies goalkeeper Gary Woods, who did well to block his powerful shot.
Hamilton had scored just eight league goals all season, but a fine save from Kelly denied Fredrik Brustad the opener. His blocked shot fell into the path of James Keatings, who went down under Halkett's challenge, but referee Alan Muir waved away the claims.
But that apart, Hamilton were struggling to make any inroads, and Livingston continued to look the more likely to find a winner as they stepped up the pressure, but they were lacking a clinical edge.
Dolly Menga had too much pace for the Accies backline, but dragged a shot just wide of a post. Minutes later he headed over.
Hamilton always looked a threat on the counter, though when Mikel Miller was sent off with five minutes to go for a second yellow card, they looked like they would be happy with the point.
But just two minutes later Bloomfield raced clear and cooly slotted the ball under goalkeeper Kelly.
Lawless hit the bar late on as Livingston tried to salvage a point, but it was not to be their day in front of goal.
Hamilton miss spark but show guts - analysis
BBC Scotland's John Barnes at the Hope CBD Stadium
Did we expect silky soccer? No. Did we get it? No. What we got was late drama, plenty of endeavour and one or two flashes of inspiration.
Accies, without the experienced Darian MacKinnon and Dougie Imrie, seemed to be missing a spark in midfield but they were happy to put their bodies on the line. Amazingly, though, within two minutes of losing Miller for a second yellow card, they scored the winner with a fine counter-attacking move.
The question now will be has a wheel come off the Livingston bogey, with this defeat following on the back of the loss to St Johnstone? Or is this just a another bump in the road for the West Lothian club?
'The plan was to hit them on the break' - reaction
Hamilton manager Martin Canning: "There wasn't much between the teams. The whole plan today was to try and hit them on the break.
"Big Mason [Bloomfield], he's had a tough time, he's not played as much as he would have liked. But he's done well today and that's a big three points for the team."
Livingston head coach Gary Holt: "It's a kick in the teeth, it's as simple as that. We had great chances in the game. I think we dominated for large spells."
