FA Cup: Salford City 1-3 Shrewsbury Town highlights

Managerless Shrewsbury Town eased past high-flying National League side Salford City in their FA Cup first round replay.

Fejiri Okenabirhie put the dominant League One side ahead as he converted from close range after Luke Waterfall's header from a corner hit the post.

Josh Laurent hit the upright soon after, but Greg Docherty made no mistake after the break as he blasted in from a tight angle after a fine run past two Salford defenders.

Adam Rooney gave Salford hope late on as he out jumped his marker to loop in a header for his 17th goal of the season, but Okenabirhie sealed the win in stoppage time as he slotted home after Laurent had broken and seen his effort saved.

But the Salford rarely threatened their opponents - who sacked boss John Askey after the draw between the two sides earlier this month - as they held on to secure a second round tie at home to fellow third-tier side Scunthorpe United.

Salford - part-owned by former Manchester United players Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs and Gary and Phil Neville - could have been behind early on but for their former Shrewsbury goalkeeper Chris Neal who made excellent saves from Oliver Norburn and Okenabirhie inside the opening 15 minutes.

The National League side - who were on a 19-game unbeaten run - did not have a shot on target until more than an hour had passed when Tom Walker's strike from the edge of the box took a big deflection and looped towards the Shrewsbury goal forcing Steve Arnold to save well.

Walker had a low free kick saved soon after conceding the second goal, and after Rooney's goal Salford did apply pressure but could not find an equaliser.
