Ross County 2-1 Dunfermline Athletic: Staggies two points off Championship summit

Kallum Higginbotham reacted with frustration after being dismissed

Ross County moved within two points of Scottish Championship leaders Ayr United by beating 10-man Dunfermline.

Billy Mckay headed Josh Mullin's shot home after eight minutes before Kallum Higginbotham saw red following an off-the-ball tussle with Stelios Demetriou.

The Staggies were denied a second when Ross Stewart's effort was disallowed for a foul, but Jamie Lindsay doubled their lead on the hour mark.

Jackson Longridge pulled one back after 74 minutes but County held firm.

The Pars remain seventh, seven points adrift of the top four.

Ross County co-manager Stuart Kettlewell: "We know we can play better and there was a little bit of frustration when Dunfermline went down to 10 men. We don't feel we are posing as much of a threat as we would like or playing as fluently as we would like.

"That said it was about winning the three points. It was important we got back on the winning trail off the back of a draw and a defeat and that's massive for us."

Dunfermline Athletic manager Allan Johnston: "You never like to lose any games. I couldn't fault the boys' effort even when we down to 10 men. I haven't seen it but by all accounts it was a sending off.

"We had to defend for long periods but we still looked dangerous going forward. We had a couple of good chances. When you play against teams like this you need to take your chances."
