Peterborough United 0-2 Scunthorpe United

Scunthorpe received a New Year's Day survival boost as they claimed a 2-0 success that knocked Peterborough out of the League One play-off places.

Striker Lee Novak did the damage with both goals to move into double-figures for the campaign.

He put Stuart McCall's men ahead after five minutes when seizing on a poor pass from Posh man Joe Ward and firing past goalkeeper Conor O'Malley.

George Thomas had already seen a spectacular effort hit the bar and been denied by a goal-line Rhys Bennett clearance as the Iron made an electric start.

Thomas curled a free-kick against the outside of a post early in the second half before Novak doubled the Scunthorpe lead by punishing another Posh error after 57 minutes.

He drilled in a clinical finish to claim his 10th goal of the season after Louis Reed lost control of the ball in his own box.

And just like their Saturday triumph against Wycombe, the victory came complete with a clean sheet for goalkeeper Jak Alnwick.

The Iron keeper did not make a save as misfiring Posh failed to muster a single shot on target.
