@220that is the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard of. human attributes are human attributes regardless of era. are you suddenly saying Pele would not succeed in the modern game?? LOL. Pele and Zico both put Messi's compatriot Maradona above Messi. Pele had everything as the quotes show. it's those inherent qualities that turn a game. especially more so today.
Paulus1979. just dinosaurs. they played football in a different era. yes, perhaps he was god then (I would say others come pretty close to him at those times if we don't consider kindergarten goals). you simply cannot compare football from 50+ years ago to todays demanding league+CL standards. gone are the times. so yeah, keep dreaming and quote peles friends but the guy is now outclassed.
Just enjoy him. We only have a short time left of him at his peak. Forget about "GOAT this, international level that"If you love football, just watch him play as much as you can. It's a joy.
and that was Zico on Pele btw:http://opera.globalsportsmedia.com/?sport=news&page=news&view=article&news_id=1067779&localization_id=www
Zico: "When God created him, he put every quality a footballer needs; speed, strength, impulse, technique, kicking ability, heading, dribbling – all of it, everything that a player might have."Few people could jump like him for a header. He is 170 centimetres tall. His foundations are perfect, had mastery of the ball, of headers. Everything you can imagine from a player, Pele has done it."
Pele on himself and Messi comparison:"How can you make a comparison between a guy who heads the ball well, shoots with the left, shoots with the right and another who only shoots with one leg, only has one skill and doesn't head the ball well?” Pele said, comparing his own playing attributes to the five-time Ballon d'Or winner."(opera sports)
@213You seriously need to have a word with yourself. It may have slipped your mind Messi has won virtually everything there is at club level. That coupled with the fact he's played in 4 world cups and a world cup final narrowly losing to Germany, plus however many other international honours he's won. What a duff eh?
But would he ever make it in the Premiership??
Messi's done well at club level. Internationally, he's a duff.
Also the debate of money and buying leagues the EPL have Manchester City and Chelsea buying it recently to name a few, Leicester and Blackburn being the only 2 outside the so called big clubs to win a single title. If the case being these achievements were so good then what about Wolfsburg in Germany winning to stop Munich? Or Montpellier in France? Both winning their first championships?
Just a fact for you. The competitive nature of the EPL not being a 2 horse league is statistically incorrect. Since the creation in 1992 6 teams have won the EPL. La Liga has 5 different winners, Serie A 5 winners, Bundesliga 6 winners, Ligue 1 9 different winners. So on the argument of teams that could and have won it Ligue 1 is the best and most competitive league going?
