Mauricio Pochettino says it is "impossible" for Tottenham to win the Premier League title after defeat at London rivals Chelsea.

With 10 games remaining, Spurs sit nine points behind leaders Liverpool having suffered back-to-back losses.

Spurs lost 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening, four days after being beaten 2-1 at Burnley.

"We made mistakes and lost the game, that is why we are disappointed," Pochettino told BBC Match of the Day.

Tottenham's poor showing against Chelsea saw them fail to get a single shot on target throughout the 90 minutes, leaving striker Harry Kane frustrated.

Pochettino's side have challenged for the title in recent seasons but fallen away at crucial moments - a draw against the Blues in 2016 handed Leicester the title that season.

They will now be looking behind them instead of in front, as fifth-placed Manchester United's 3-1 win over Crystal Palace cut the gap on third-placed Spurs to five points.

Pedro scored with Chelsea only shot on target, while the second came courtesy of Kieran Tripper's own goal.

Pochettino said: "Chelsea had one shot on target and one goal and we didn't shoot - its difficult that way to win and we weren't solid enough. In the small details the result was decided for Chelsea.

"The competition will put us in our place. It's a 10-month competition, not just three or four months. We are disappointed now.

"After Burnley I said it was difficult, and tonight makes it impossible to fight Man City and Liverpool.

"Only they can win the league - we must fight to win games and to be fair."

    And once again Son turns to nothing once Kane is back in the side!

    Claim really needs to start passing the ball a bit more and stop shooting whenever he is within 30 yards of the opposition goal! I know it boosts your stats Harry but the team is more important!

    Feel a bit sorry for Son. Puts a shift in. Keeps Spurs' title hopes alive and immediately is forgotten and everything has to go through Harry Kane now he's back

    Spurs have 2 titles in their existence and have never made it past the quarter finals of the CL! They are a small club.

    How long before Kane/Son/Poch decide they want to be remembered for something other than being the bridesmaids and Spurs go back to being the little club they are?

    Strange that there has been no mention of Kane’s attempted headbutt on Azpilicueta not was it shown on MOTD.

    Almost as if England’s golden boy gets extra protection.

    Spurs would be bang in the mix if they'd won these last two games. People talk about lack of investment in the summer yet they were doing well without their 'star striker'. Poor management from Poch to break that momentum and make Kane look untouchable to the others. Should have eased him back in when someone's form/fitness dropped.

    They called Wenger a specialist in failure but among his other accomplishments he won the FA cup THREE times in the last FIVE YEARS. pochettino on the other hand has won FA. he is the TRUE specialist in failure.

    Has always been impossible for spurs. It’s been a useful stepping stone for Poch but it’s clear he can’t do no more there and his recent comments can’t hide his desire to get to a big club after this season

    Finally the penny has dropped. I said a couple of weeks ago that Spurs will finish 6th. The bottlers always falter, Kane is overrated
