Tranmere Rovers 3-0 Carlisle United

Tranmere Rovers' rapid pursuit of automatic promotion continues to gather pace after they overpowered Carlisle United at Prenton Park to notch a seventh straight league win.

Ollie Banks headed Rovers in front just before the break, before James Norwood's 27th league goal of the season doubled their advantage in the second half and Manny Monthe added a late third.

Rovers now know that victory over Oldham on Tuesday evening will move them into fourth place in League Two, with promotion rivals MK Dons and Bury - managed by Rovers old boy Ryan Lowe - still to come to Prenton Park.

Steven Pressley's Cumbrians had enjoyed the better chances of the first half and should have led just before the half-hour mark, when Nathan Thomas' low cross was smashed against the underside of the bar.

But on the stroke of half time, David Perkins fired over a cross that was headed home by Banks from close range.

Tranmere returned after the break with renewed vigour, doubling their lead after 64 minutes when Norwood's header from Carpice's cross was saved by Adam Collin but bundled home at the second attempt. And Monthe added some gloss late on for Micky Mellon's men with a bullet header eight minutes from time.
