Phil Foden scored his first Premier League goal for Manchester City

Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League table on Saturday while Brighton edged further away from the relegation zone.

Phil Foden's goal gave City a 1-0 win over Tottenham in the early kick-off to send Pep Guardiola's side one point clear of title rivals Liverpool.

Brighton ended a run of four successive defeats with a goalless draw at Wolves.

It moved the Seagulls three points above 18th-placed Cardiff, who host Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool on Sunday.

Brighton had goalkeeper Mat Ryan to thank for a string of fine saves at Molineux, where a draw meant hosts Wolves slipped to ninth in the table.

Elsewhere, Aleksandar Mitrovic scored from the spot as relegated Fulham won 1-0 at Bournemouth, while Gerard Deulofeu netted twice as Watford saw off bottom side Huddersfield 2-1.

Harvey Barnes grabbed a point for Leicester in an entertaining 2-2 draw at West Ham, after Lucas Perez had put the Hammers in front with 10 minutes to go.

Michail Antonio had headed in for the hosts in the first half, before Jamie Vardy's neat finish pulled the Foxes level after the break.

Ayoze Perez scored a hat-trick as Newcastle beat Southampton 3-1 to move 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

    Spurs had a winning formula against City and could have used the same team today - but it seems that they're throwing all their eggs into the Champions League basket by resting players for Ajax.

    I can't see United beating City. That team's honeymoon with OGS is over and the players aren't playing for the team.

    As a result, I can't see City dropping any more points this season.

    How can City winning anything be good for football knowing what they do behind the scenes. If a sprinter uses drugs to cheat they're banned for life. If a football club are found to be cooking the books, the price should be equally as stringent

    Am I the only Fulham fan enraged by the fact the players are only stepping up because they want to move away instead of playing in the championship. Should have started earlier and it wouldn't have been an issue.

    What happened in the Premier League today?
    Man City got a result they would have preferred to get in midweek. Their keeper had a blinder 3 days too late. Guardiola said this is the best Liverpool team he's ever seen, which is probably true. All he needs is a win against the worst Utd team he's ever seen too.

    Well done City on the win. Well done Foden on his first goal.Back on top and all to play for. Spurs made a game of it and Edison made numerous fine saves to keep City in it. West Ham robbed again by disgraceful officiating. The inconsistency of refereeing is a disgrace. Brighton keep their hopes alive against a robust Wolves. Newcastle put Saints in real trouble with a emphatic win.

    51 no , the last 10 minutes are simply and excuse for the many trolls that attack him will use to excuse. We all know the real reason you lot don't like him .
