Spurs were fortunate not to be behind by more. Nothing in attack. Suspect in defence. Outrun, outplayed, out of breath.... Sissoku did make a bit of a difference but Eriksen (looking uninterested), Dele (looking unfit) Trippier (looking out of his depth) and Rose (looking failible) all need to up their contributions ....... Son will make a difference as might Winks (if fit) ..... but a lot to do🙁
Ajax started brilliantly & swept through Spurs with ease for first 30 mins, scoring the crucial goal. Poch has admitted he got his tactics wrong. When Sissoko came on (for the unfortunate Vertonghen) he provided much need impetus & combined with change in formation made a huge difference. Spurs dominated the last 60 mins without really creating a clear chance. Need Son to be on fire in return leg.
Eriksen and Ali forced into different rolls, attempting to feed or play off unfamiliar players in and around who were also playing out of position, due to the number of players out. These relations take time to develop the same wave length, to allow their creative instincts to reap rewards.Game on in the return, be afraid be very afraid COYS!!!!
Brexit has more chance of staying in Europe than Spurs.
Spurs have plenty to be positive about. Ajax's best performances have come away from home where they've had to be positive to reverse a dodgy home result. Playing the second leg at home with something to.protect may not suit them.
The first leg of these ties is always psychologically more difficult for the home side which is under pressure to win and to try to keep a clean sheet. With the regular attack unavailable this was always going to be a big ask for Spurs. The return is a Cup tie. Spurs need to score 2 and win. That's very doable. Ajax are a good side, but nowhere near the quality of Man City.
This comment was removed because it broke the house rules. Explain
Son the saviour. No pressure then....
Eriksen needs to turn up this time - and Ali. People seem to be assuming that Ajax aren't going to score!
Spurs were terrible first 30 mins until Sissoko came on, changed the game and the mentality - Nothing to offer up front without Son or Harry. I for one am looking forward to 2nd leg with Son rampaging up front - Bring it on! COYS!
If Spurs and the entire Premier league fixture list had have been given an extra week to prepare for this one game (as Ajax and Dutch league were) Maybe Tottenham's strung out players may have had a chance to to win this game. Level playing fields etc.
BBC - Why is this HYS broken ????????????????????????????????
BBC please fire whoever controls the comments sections. On most I'm not allowed to see past the first 10 comments and on others I'm allowed the luxury of seeing a single comment laughingly labelled "the editors choice ". I mean are you actually trying to drive people away from your sites and corporation?
still cant choose highest/lowest rated comments etc BBC - come on, please fix....!!
Ajax by far the more skillful team.Thoroughbreds v cart horses.
@238 Table doesn't lie. How can it be flattering when all the teams below us are poorer? Think you need to try harder with your attempts at slating the Pride of London! If everyone else is better, then how come we're third and in the semi's of the Champions League? Try again, but at least make an effort!
