Great! FIFA going back on promises again.I will be an old man before I can watch Scotland at a World Cup and I am only 19 now!!!About time FIFA thought about the little nations
The comp should be REDUCED to 16,better to have quality than loads of rubbish on display in meaningless prelim stages, after all prelims have taken place already in the regionals?
FIFA is basically a football Mafia.Infantio is the new 'Don'
Bet it costs an arm n a leg for a decent pint in a Qatari boozer, with the weather there you will need a right bucketful. I would want Becks on tap myself.
In other news... Qatari President of PSG charged with corruption, this time in Athletics.Corruption obviously comes as naturally as breathing to wealthy Qataris, and FIFA were just a natural partner.
The 48 team format is terrible. 48 matches just to eliminate the 16 minnows we've added in and almost no risk for the big teams. It's a complete waste of time. Almost as bad as the old 24 team format with two group stages.
Baku and Qatar the next major venues are to be the Falkland islands and Greenland in the winter months of course
Fifa & Uefa bot a joke Finals where most people cant reach prices that the vast majority cant afford, backhanded deals for holding tournaments everyone knows that's the deal, and the poor people getting paid 0.58 dollars for a full days work and many killed along the way the fat cats have no shame and this is after a massive shake up within both organisations Dick and Turpin that's the new name
Perhaps I think football should bring patriotic, fun, enjoy, adrenaline, respect, NO to Racism, Discrimination etc etc,But now after watching documentries of building stadiums in Qatar,I can clearly see inhumanity, disrespect, No trust etc,How can we watch such an inspiring game where people have been killed in that ground. Shame on FIFA.
@610 The maths of that would only work if 46 teams received a bye into round two, allowing the remaining 164 to be reduced to 82, with 128 teams in round two, 64 in round 3, then 32 16 8 4 2 1.
FIFA's aim is clearly not to be more inclusive, it's to make a lot more money - everything else is a secondary consideration (hence World Cup in Qatar of all places....UEFA cup final in Baku shows this is an issue not just limited to FIFA....).
"the more teams the more exciting and dramatic the tournament would be" - but that's exactly the opposite of the Euros. Half the tournament was almost pointless to watch, so many average sides got to the last game not even needing a result to qualify
What they need to do is remove the seeding system and just put all teams in a bag and mix up and draw. That will make things more fun and also raises the chances of lesser teams actually winning the World Cup. And 48 teams sounds good. the more teams the more exciting and dramatic the tournament would be
@620 charlieboyImagine what a top 16 tournament would be like. You know like it used to be. No easy games. Every group a group of death.--If you went off the current rankings, it would be a cracking tournament.Group A: Belgium,Switzerland,Spain,ColombiaGroup B: France,Uruguay,Denmark,NetherlandsGroup C: Brazil,Portugal,Germany,ChileGroup D: England,Croatia,Argentina,Sweden
they destroyed the Euro group stages with 24 teams meaning it's almost impossible not to qualify, Portugal I don't think won a single group game and they went on to win the tournament. God knows what 48 teams will do to world cup
In a nutshell, 48 teams are still in the pipeline but not happening in Q2022 due to politics??!!Infantino's account has dropped a couple of zeros.
Infact don't bother with FIFA for the world cup suggestion @ 610..Its not like the country des not know how to hold 500 + matches every weekend in the UK is it?We have the grounds, The infrastructure & thousands of hotels ..The REAL WORLD CUP every 4 years at the Home of football..No Entry Fee..No underhand bribes no membership fees the media foots the bill...
