Good bit of business by Dean Smith for Jota £1m and paying Gary Gardner's wages at Blues. Will be worth at least £10m by January
Good luck villa. Will be interesting to see how mcginn does, maybe spreading the signings too thin tho.
Villa have earned their right to eat at the top table. They are investing big in the hope of staying up. My only concern for them is neither their manager or very few of their players have played at this level. They will be hoping to emulate Wolves and take the league by storm but with so many players on the books it's gonna be extremely difficult to keep everyone happy.
Would be nice to see Villa do a Fulham as the premier league is becoming too much about spending money, look at what city have done, totally ruining the league. Hopefully all the authorities that are investigating City’s alleged financial wrongdoings will deal with them soon so we can get back to a proper competition between proper clubs.
Peoeple comparing Villa to Fulham last season after their spending spree and relegation is nonsense.A handful of their new signings are loan guys so they know they can produce the goods. Smith also knows a couple of the others that are based in this country. The other's are a gamble but they're having a punt.Which is more than can be said for SU and Norwich who are just chancing it.
Very good prospect and I think City have only let him go as they cant meet the work permit requirements regarding appearances one to watch
Decent signings if worse comes to the worse their side would be strong in the ChampionshipVilla need to get points on the board quickly. Personally, I think there will be 3 or 4 teams worse than Villa and they should be OK
A lot of reliance is being placed on Grealish and McGinn.I won’t dwell on the threats to the club there, no more gloomsters!I’m sure the club are/have put in place the right support, training for the PL and other necessary measures/plans.
How nice to have a transfer window when AV aren’t being pressured to sell their best player(s).
This lad has all the attributes to succeed Villa have got themselves a bargain
140. Posted by 1874AVFCBased on the fact that most seasons all 3 promoted teams get relegated. The fact you can only place 4 teams as having done reasonably well indicates the rest haven't
Throw enough darts at the dart board and 1 or 2 will hit the bulls eye. That's all it takes is 1 or 2 (preferably 2) to come good, and the 100m will seem like money well spent.Gambling isn't it? But isn't everything?
decent signings by the villa, still think they need a decent goalie, but i think they are looking stronger than teams like brighton and sheff utd. if you can stay up the first season, then owt can happen in your second. good luck villa looking forward to seeing mcginn and grealish
@26 - just saw this and agree. A lot of premiership fans - esp the nonspecific fans or the top 6 fans - don't pay attention to the Championship. What people don't realise is how competitive it is but also how psychologically draining it is to compete there. Every year 6 teams change. You can't easily build consistency between seasons. That's why prem teams relegated now struggle to bounce back.
Don't forget 3 of these were last seasons loanees, 6 or 7 Dean smith has worked with before. Some have other international teammates in the squad, and Luiz is incredibly highly rated, but couldn't get a work permit for Man City. Having seen some of this team play together Vs Walsall this week, then there is the potential for a good side. It's very fast which is a necessity in the Prem .
The point most critics are missing, is that out of the 11 players signed there are only four that the manager has not worked with in the past. Four of the " new signings" were loan players from last season.
I'm fine being seen as cannon fodder. It takes off the pressure we lived under for 3 years in the EFL. The Fulham comparisons demonstrate ignorance of both clubs & of football, though. If Villa go down it won't be from buying too many players. It will be because we still have work to do. Relegation isn't scary, so I hope we'll play our way, & surprise some people. First target is 17th.
@129 stevillaActually, I'm hoping for an atmosphere more like the surprisingly entertaining cup game a couple of years before, certainly not like the 70s and 80s games when threatening women and children seemed to be OK with some Villa fans. Perhaps that was more your thing? As if you'll be getting one of the 1,100 tickets to Dean Court. Dream on!
