Queen of the South 2-3 Alloa Athletic: Visitors off bottom with win

Kevin O'Hara's late winner hauled Alloa Athletic off the foot of the Scottish Championship with victory over Queen of the South.

O'Hara completed a double on 81 minutes for a win that takes Alloa to four league games without defeat.

The forward and Robert Thomson had the visitors two up before Jack Hamilton and Stephen Dobbie had levelled.

Alloa are two points clear of Partick Thistle while Queens sit just a point ahead in eighth.

O'Hara's opening goal came after the Queen of the South defence failed to clear the danger and the striker took advantage.

He then turned provider as he played a lovely ball across the face of goal, Thompson finishing off with ease.

Hamilton came on as a second-half substitute and got the better of a mistake by Alloa Keeper Andy Wilson, who'd come on to replace the injured Jamie MacDonald.

Dobbie then unleashed a stunning strike from about 20 yards to equalise.

Both sides pushed forward looking for the winner, and with nine minutes to go Alloa found it. A lovely ball in from the right from Ben Stirling found O'Hara in space and he wrapped up the win.

Queen of the South manager Allan Johnston: "When you get yourself back to 2-2 and put in so much work in after losing two poor goals, then you expect to go on and at least get a draw if not win the game.

"We lost a really sloppy goal from our point of view, we allow the cross to come into the box and defenders have got to be picking up in the box. You cant allow a striker to be standing himself."

Alloa manager Peter Grant: "We knew they were going to put us under pressure and we didn't handle that particularly well for bout 10-15 minutes.

"I thought we finished the game very strongly once we saw it out and we got organised. We scored a fantastic goal to win it. But yet again it takes two fantastic saves as well. I was delighted all round."
