Jordon Forster's first goal of the season gave Dundee victory against struggling Queen of the South and moved them back into the play-off positions in the Scottish Championship.

The former Hibernian defender finished from 10 yards at Palmerston after Christophe Berra's effort was saved.

Dundee are up to third, but have played two games more than Ayr United, whose game at Arbroath was abandoned.

Queens, meanwhile, slipped behind Alloa to ninth, the relegation play-off spot.

Allan Johnston's side, now without a win in six league games, missed a great early chance when Deimantas Petravicius shot weakly at Conor Hazard.

Dundee have now won twice in a row as they seek to secure the top-four finish required to enter the Premiership play-offs.

'It's not momentum yet' - reaction

QoS manager Allan Johnston: "We had the best chance of the first half and we've got to score. We're in a fight. Every game is going to be massive between now and the end of the season.

"You start losing a few games and it becomes a bit nervy, and the crowd gets a bit nervy. Everybody needs to stick together."

Dundee manager James McPake: "Jordon [Forster] was great defensively but he's a real threat in the other box as well. We looked really solid as a unit.

"It's only two wins in a row; it's not enough. It's not quite momentum yet. When it becomes a few more decent performances and results, I'll be happier."
