Ukraine 0-3 Scotland: Martha Thomas double & Claire Emslie strike earn win

Highlights: Ukraine 0-3 Scotland

Martha Thomas scored twice on her Scotland debut as Shelley Kerr's side opened their Pinatar Cup campaign with victory against Ukraine in Murcia.

The West Ham forward capitalised on a defensive mix-up to put Scotland in front midway through the first half.

And Thomas showed composure to double her tally with a calm finish in the second period.

Claire Emslie lashed in Scotland's third as Kerr's side made their superiority count.

On Saturday, the Scots face Iceland, who beat Northern Ireland 1-0 earlier on Wednesday, before finishing against Northern Ireland on Tuesday.

The tournament in Spain acts as a warm-up for a return to competitive action next month in Cyprus in a Euro 2021 qualifier, having opened Group E with victories over Cyprus and Albania.

Thomas was one of two uncapped players named in the squad and the striker got in between Lyubov Shmatko and advancing goalkeeper Kateryna Samson for the opener.

When Shmatko's intervention took the ball wide of Samson, Thomas maintained her run before slipping the ball into the net.

Thomas escaped Shmatko again to latch on to captain Caroline Weir's pass and tuck the ball past Samson.

Emslie had earlier been denied by Samson but beat the keeper with a left-foot strike with 12 minutes remaining.
