Former West Ham Women's manager Matt Beard will take over at Bristol City until the end of the season.

Beard steps in as head coach while Tanya Oxtoby, who is expecting a baby boy in March, takes maternity leave.

The 43-year-old left West Ham by "mutual consent" in November after two and a half years at the club.

Bristol City are currently bottom of the Women's Super League with just two points from their opening 10 games and travel to Everton on Sunday.

Beard has also managed Liverpool, Chelsea and American side Boston Breakers.

"I want to come in and make an impact straight away with the players, the staff, and hopefully that impact can turn into results," he told the club website.external-link

"I've got a great relationship with Tanya. She's done a good job over the years here and it's exciting for her to have her first baby.

"It gives me an opportunity for me to come in to hopefully turn things around in the league. I'm sure we'll keep in contact over the course of the season."
