Wigan Athletic 1-1 Wycombe Wanderers

Anthony Stewart maintained Wycombe's unbeaten start to their League One campaign with a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Wigan.

Callum Lang had seemingly secured the Latics the points when he fired home his first goal of the season two minutes into the second half.

But defender Stewart headed home Sullay Kaikai's corner in the 91st minute to clinch a last-gasp point at the DW Stadium.

Athletic stopper Ben Amos did well to deny Garath McCleary a third league goal in as many games after he broke away.

Former Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke missed a great chance and Chairboys' goalkeeper David Stockdale did well seconds later to deny Jordan Jones after he pounced on a mistimed back pass.

Will Keane saw an effort chalked off for offside for Wigan just before half-time.

But the hosts got their deserved lead just after the restart when Lang fired into the top corner.

Stockdale made another fine save to keep out Jones' well-struck left-footed effort.

Keane should have put the game to bed for the hosts when he rattled the crossbar with 20 minutes to go.

And that miss proved costly as Stewart snatched a point right at the end.

We were lucky on Saturday against Rotherham we snatched three points when it should really have been one.Tonight we should have won the game comfortably ,completely outplayed a Wycombe side who are strongly fancied to go straight back up. The signs are looking good,this is a newly put together side that will only get stronger as the season progresses.

Well done Wycombe. Snatching a point at the death in a tricky away tie to maintain the unbeaten start to the season. After all the numerous “honest mistakes” from refs that ultimately saw us go down last season by the narrowest of margins, finally we seem to be getting a bit of luck. Tough on Wigan and massive respect to them, but welcome to our last season.

Wigan deserved the win but shouldn't be too upset with a draw against automatic promotion contenders. Well done to Wycombe for snatching a point when defeat was imminent.

As a Wigan fan, obviously disappointed to concede a late goal, when we had great chances to seal it. However a highlight for me was seeing Akinfenwe again. Top bloke or what? 👏

No matter what form a team had last season, at this stage of a new season there are no easy games - all teams are confident and optimistic. So well done Wycombe for not giving up and grabbing a point. We all know how it was last season but this is 21/22 - a new season and continuing good form......
