The BBC's Formula 1 coverage has been named best sports programme in the prestigious Broadcast Awards.

It follows victories in the Baftas and F1 Broadcaster of the Year Awards.

The prize, for the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, was praised as "very slick, accessible and compelling coverage of the season finale".

The BBC's director of sport Barbara Slater said the award was "further deserved recognition for all involved in the multi-platform production".

F1 presenter Jake Humphrey added on his Twitter account: "Delighted the awesome #bbcf1 team won a prestigious 'Broadcast Award'. More driven than ever to make 2012 great."

The BBC has a contract to broadcast F1 in the UK until the end of 2018.

From this year, it will be sharing the coverage of the sport with satellite broadcaster Sky.

All the races will be shown on the BBC, with show 10 of the grands prix live, with extended highlights of the remainder.
