Ban females from F1 and make a new F1 category for females only. Ban female presenters from F1 and no female staff allowed as their uniforms could be classed as demeaing. Or if there is female pit crew they must wear a safety helmet at all times and no tight overalls.
To an extent I can see both points of view. However, what do the grid girls think? Do they think they are being exploited in a sexist manner or do they enjoy the show? Are they forced to do it? Let the grid girls decide their future, not the people who are thinking and making assumptions on their behalf. If they think it’s bad and don’t want to do it then it should be stopped.
I am not part of the PC brigade and don't mind them on the actual grid but I do find the bit with orchestrated applause of the top 3 drivers on their way to the podium a bit cringeworthy
If being a Grid Girl is so demeaning/degrading for the girls, how does adding a few token males change things and make it any better for the girls? It seems to me that this thinking smacks of dual standards!
I can see both sides of this. A lot of the grid girls see it as an opportunity to get noticed for modelling work etc., and who is anyone else to deny them that chance. They apply to do the job, and are paid for it. Mix it up now and then with 'grid guys', or have them act as chaperone for some kids who would love the chance.
This comment was removed because it broke the house rules. Explain
If I had a daughter I would rather she was a Grid girl than a Wag, At least she is working for a living
It is just outdated and now, a little sad and obviously some folk find it offensive.I would say that they add nothing at all to F1 and it is rather demeaning to have people (of either sex) used as decoration and so in 2018 this is a really easy choice to make. They should go. It's as simple as that.
"I don't want my daughter aspiring to wear lycra"And I don't want to see overweight MAMIL's either pushing pedals and panting and wheezing up the slightest incline.Lycra is not the problem - it's what's inside it.
It is as outdated as Page 3 pictures. If men just go to see women, then there at the wrong venue.Perhaps we should ask the women not in motor sport why they go to expensive Formula One and what they REALLY feel about it.Modernising could mean making there is sure fair sexual representation, so include obvious LGBT persons as well.
There is so much rubbish spouted about this. There is only one group of people to ask about this and it is the Grid Girls themselves because only their opinion is relevant as they are the ONLY ONES affected by such a decision.Anybody elses opinion is worthless.
A bigger wheeze would be to have a HYS on the overdosing, drug fuelled propulsion systems employed by international cyclists, who are so disabled by asthma that without their drugs, they could not even compete.A roaring silence from Auntie on certain drug cheats in cycling. This bubble will burst - it will not go away it is too outrageous. But until then, hey, lets discuss "grid girls".
If they get rid of the grid girls then I will give up. As an under-the-thumb family man I have to get my ogling in as innocuously as possible. If F1 can no longer provide this then I will have to look elsewhere. God knows the cars going round are boring enough on their own.
I see the PC men are back from 'work' to defend those 'poor defenseless women' who cant speak for themselves..... who are the sexist/misogynists in all this?.......let the women have their 'own' opinion..........
Yes get rid of them - men have been exploited by women for far too long and sentiment is changing.
Time to end the objectification of women and bring the sport into the 21st century.
