BBC Sport - Sean Cavanagh says being given Tyrone captaincy a 'massive honour'

Cavanagh relishing Tyrone captaincy

Sean Cavanagh says being given the Tyrone captaincy is a "massive honour" although he may miss out on the early McKenna Cup matches because of a "few niggles".

"When Mickey (Harte) gave me the call, it fairly refocuses you," Cavanagh told BBC Sport Northern Ireland at the launch of this year's Dr McKenna Cup in Belfast.

"I thrived when I was given the International Rules captaincy in 2008 and I really looking forward to captaining Tyrone."

Cavanagh, like manager Harte, is confident that experienced players Conor Gormley and Stephen O'Neill will remain on with the Red Hand squad for another year.
