Fermanagh boosted their hopes of retaining their Division Three status by beating Wexford by nine points in an entertaining game at Brewster Park.

The returning Barry Owens scored a first-minute goal to help the Ernemen to a 1-12 to 0-3 lead at half-time.

Ruairi Corrigan found the net in the second half while James Holmes, Ben Brosnan and Adrian Flynn were the goalscorers for the visitors.

Tomas Corrigan top-scored with six points, while Eddie Courtney added 0-4.

Peter McGrath's side have six points from their six matches, having won three and lost three, but could still be relegated depending on the outcomes of next weekend's final round of fixtures.

Fermanagh got off to a flying start when Paul McCusker's shot dropped, Owens got in the way of the goalkeeper and the ball hit the net after just 48 seconds.

The sides then traded scores, but eight unanswered points before half-time gave the home side a comfortable 12-point cushion going into the break.

Daithi Waters pointed for Wexford at the start of the second half, but Eddie Courtney (2) and Declan McCusker registered points to make it 1-15 to 0-4.

Ciaran Lyng, Cillian Kehoe and Graeme Cullen got their names on the scoreboard to reduce the visitors' deficit again, but Graeme Molly then received a black card.

A Holmes goal and a Brian Malone point gave Wexford some hope of a recovery, but Ryan Jones responded with a point from 45 yards out to revive his side's spirits.

Corrigan (2) and Jones added further scores, before a late flurry of goals.

Brosnan was on target for Wexford, Ruairi Corrigan found the net for Fermanagh and then Flynn scored Wexford's third goal.

Fermanagh will entertain relegated Offaly, who have yet to secure a point, in Enniskillen next Sunday.
