An inspired second-half performance from Gearoid McKiernan helped Cavan earn a draw at Roscommon in their Football League Division Two opener.
Cavan trailed 1-5 to 0-6 at the interval, with Cathal Cregg scoring the only goal of the game after 12 minutes.
McKiernan scored four points from play in the second half to put Cavan ahead while substitute Barry Reilly added two good points for the Ulster side.
The game ended 1-11 to 0-14 and Cavan's next opponents will be Laois next week.
Both sides were promoted from Division Three last season and Cavan went into the game boosted by an encouraging McKenna Cup campaign, which saw them lose out to Tyrone in the final.
A Martin Dunne free gave Cavan an early lead and Dunne pointed again in the first half, with Darra McVeety (2) and Martin Reilly also getting their names on the scoresheet.
McKiernan, whose contribution proved significant, was returning to action after being handed a two-match ban for directing sectarian abuse at an opponent during a McKenna Cup fixture between Cavan and Monaghan.
