Rory McIlroy fired a final round of 73 to end as the highest placed Northern Ireland finisher at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The Holywood player carded three birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey to end tied 24th on three over.

Michael Hoey posted a 69 to finish on four over, Darren Clarke ended on six over after a 75 and Gareth Maybin carded a 73 to lie 16 over.

Luke Donald beat Lee Westwood in a play-off after both finished six under.

Former Irish Open winner Shane Lowry finished joint fourth on two under after an excellent closing round of four-under 67.

Belfast man Hoey, the winner of last week's Madeira Open, recorded five birdies and three bogeys in his final round while Clarke registered two birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys.
