McIlroy recovers from poor start

Having bogeyed two of the first three holes at Royal St George's, US Open champion Rory McIlroy finishes with a neat one-over-par round on the first day of the Open.
The 24-year-old Ulsterman birdied the eighth hole to reduce his arrears, before another bogey on 13 saw him drop back to two over.
McIlroy, the bookies' favourite heading into the event, showed glimpses of his quality and birdied the par four 17th, finishing with a round of 71.
