Corey had three bogeys in his first five holes

Somerset golfer Lee Corfield bounced back from a poor start to card a decent two-over 72 and stand tied for 71st in his first Open Championship.

Three bogeys in his first five holes did not look too promising for the 28-year-old from Burnham & Berrow.

But he played the rest of the round without losing another shot, birdieing eight before parring in from the ninth.

"I didn't play as well as I might, but it was a fantastic experience," Corfield told BBC Sport.

"I battled and battled and holed a couple of 20-footers on the back nine to keep it going.

"I know I can play a lot better than that though, so I'm really looking forward to the second round.

"There's another 54 holes left in this tournament. I'm still in the mix and not out of it by any means."
