England's Mark Foster, who was one ahead on the 18th tee, is in a five-man play-off for the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles after finishing with a bogey six.
Driving into the trees led to Foster falling to 11 under par alongside Dane Thomas Bjorn, Spain's Pablo Larrazabal, Austrian Bernd Wiesberger and South African George Coetzee.
Foster's only previous European Tour victory came in a six-man play-off in South Africa - and he sank a 40-foot eagle putt on the second extra hole.
