Darren Clarke carded a closing round of two-under-par 70 to finish in 54th place on three over at the Australia Championship at Coolum.

Clarke recorded an eagle, four birdies and four bogeys during his final 18 holes on Sunday.

Greg Chalmers beat Marcus Fraser and Robert Allenby in a play-off after the trio ended the tournament on 12 under.

Meanwhile Gareth Maybin ended in a tie for 51st on one under at the South Africa Open after posting a 74.

The Ballyclare golfer posted three birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey in his final round.

Maybin now lies 120th in the Order of Merit standings, with only the top 118 guaranteed to retain their tour cards for next season.

He will compete in the Hong Kong Open next week in a final attempt to retain his automatic European Tour status.

South African Hennie Otto won the tournament by a shot from Bernd Wiesberger.

Clarke had begun the tournament in Australia promisingly with a 69 but then carded a 73 and a 79 to fall down the field.
