Kent golfer Benn Barham says he is gutted to miss out on a place on the European Tour.
The Ashford pro needed a top-30 finish in the Qualifying School to regain his full European card but finished 41st.
Barham said he was confident of making the cut, despite a disastrous fifth round which saw him shoot seven over par in Spain.
He told BBC Radio Kent: "It's really tough to take. I've chosen a really tough career that's for sure."
After an excellent opening four rounds, leaving Barham tied in 15th, the fifth looked to have left the Tenterden man out of the running.
However, he shot back with five birdies in his final round before three bogeys in the last six holes sealed his fate.
After such a cruel end to his push, Barham plans to take a break before embarking on the Challenge Tour again.
"I've got a great family around me and I just need some time off I think," he added.
