James Morrison sorry for Celtic Manor 'dump' tweet

The European Tour will discipline James Morrison after the English golfer called the Celtic Manor a "dump" on Twitter during the Wales Open.

The 27-year-old finished joint 57th in Wales on eight over par, 14 shots behind and hit out at the 2010 Ryder Cup course.

"Thanks Celtic manor. Dump! One more round then can't get over that bridge quick enough!" Morrison tweeted.external-link

He later apologised but the Tour has confirmed it will sanction Morrison.

Morrison, who claimed his first European Tour win at the Madeira Islands Open in April 2010, made the comments on Twitter after his third-round 72 on Saturday night.

And when asked if the Celtic Manor's Twenty Ten was the worst course he had played this year, he replied: "By far."

But Morrison added: "Really want to apologise for comments yesterday. I was very hot when I finished and didn't mean it in that context. Sorry to all involved.

"Celtic Manor do a great job for our tour and have a great venue. [We] as players [are] very grateful for all the support. Very sorry for comment."

Tournament director Mike Stewart told the South Wales Argus: "We have spoken to the player who has expressed his sincere regrets about the nature of his comments on Twitter.

"James wishes to apologise to Sir Terry Matthews and everyone at the Celtic Manor Resort for all of the offence caused. The European Tour will be taking disciplinary action against the player."
