Casper lauds McDowell efforts

Twice US Open champion Billy Casper has lauded Graeme McDowell as "a great champion and a great player" after the Northern Ireland player tied for second at the US Open in San Francisco.

"When the weather turned, I thought Graeme had a great chance as those would be the conditions he would be used to back home," Casper told the BBC.

Casper said the recent major successes by McDowell, Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke proved that "Northern Ireland has some of the top players in the world".
