Why do the BBC get fooled into advertising?I Dont know, they seem to...Just Do It
@105. I've played golf for 30 years and wouldn't trust Nike to paint my tees
46.Craig"Surely quarter of a billion dollars would be better spent alleviating genuine poverty".And your personal contributions to poverty are? Bet you waisted money during Christmas and the sales though eh?Your just jealous.
It's a sensible deal for Rory. He may perform even better with his new clubs. Young Seve coped with much worse - "Whenever I arrived at a tournament the first thing I had to do was ask myself, 'Where am I playing?' to know what clubs and balls I should use. I played with Mizuno in Japan, Slazenger in the UK and Sounder in the United States, Dunlop in Japan and Titleist in the rest of the world".
@108Who really deserves it? I think nurses and the like should get more than they do - but I don't think they warrant 5 million a year either. It's just money when all is said and done and someone like Mcllroy is only getting a little bit from each thing sold he represents plus his prize money. What is wrong with that. More power to him. I am overpaid but I still take it - so would most folk.
You are envious/jealous of the money. I make about 400 grand a year am I in your bad books tooI am not envious/jealous of money, I'm annoyed at the fact people who really deserve it (I'm not included in this) don't get it, I don't crave money like the rest of the planet so let me get that point across. I prefer to be true to myself so I wont go out my way to boot lick to get a few quid
@106Why shouldn't they? You are evidently equating worth with money - how shallow. It isn't a hobby for him or the thousands of professional golfers around the world. It is a job and a business which the top few make a lucrative living at.You are envious/jealous of the money. I make about 400 grand a year - am I in your bad books too? Crazy people are crazy money or no money.
For all the people saying we're 'jealous' I am NOT jealous, I made a valid point, that athletes shouldn't earn this much, they do something that is considered a 'hobby' by the rest of us, so a hobby is worth $300m, get some perspective. I gurantee he wont be the role model you want him to be, look at Tiger, money sends people crazy. and which one reported me, can't take a valid point, clearly.
@103I take it you don't play golf now (or ever?) Because this is 2013 - and Nike do make some excellent golf equipment these days - every bit as good as Ping and Callaway. There is little to choose between any of these companies.
Congratulations to McIlroy. He deserves whatever he gets as he's the best in the world at this particular sport. I think he's a much better role model than the vast majority of PL footballers. To all the jealous haters out there, bear in mind that he's worked all his life to be this good and be successful. Hard work=success for all of us. A lucky few will then earn millions but good for them!
Poor guy has all the talent in the world but is now lumbered with 14 tent poles to make a living with.Never mind Rory, just do it.Should have asked for more money
it's a good thing he isn't an overpayed footballer because then we'd never heart the end of it
So Mattythewholover, "Who Are You" to have never considered how the members of your favourite band all became multi-millionaires?"My Generation" of Golfers deserve every penny they're offered to stop them having to ride the "Magic Bus"Obviously if Rors was a "Pinball Wizard", you "Wont Get Fooled Again" Matty.Or do you just have a Quadrophenia to young mods making money?Tommy xx
