Mcllroy pleased with start at US PGA

Rory McIlroy says he is playing well enough to "make a lot of birdies" after firing an opening 69 at the US PGA Championship.

McIlroy has been struggling badly for form this season but his opening round at Oak Hill left him only four behind leaders Adam Scott and Jim Furyk.

"A 69 was probably the worst I could have shot. I played well," said McIlroy.

"I felt there was a lot of good golf and good shots out there."
