Rory McIlroy slips back at Houston Open after a 74

McIlroy watches his shot on the sixth hole in Houston

Rory McIlroy dropped down the leaderboard at the Houston Open after shooting a disappointing two-over-par 74 in Saturday's third round.

The two-times major winner from Holywood was one under for the front nine but carded bogeys at 10, 11 and 17 to finish on one under.

McIlroy is 14 shots behind leader Matt Kuchar, who is four clear of fellow American Cameron Tringale.

Darren Clarke and Padraig Harrington both missed the halfway cut.

Harrington needed to win the tournament at the Golf Club of Houston to secure a place at next week's Masters.

McIlroy had birdies at three and eight to go with a bogey at six, but slipped back on the back nine.
