American Brian Harman won the John Deere Classic in Illinois to clinch his place in this week's Open.

Harman, 27, led the event going into the final round and held off a late challenge from Zach Johnson to claim his first PGA Tour title.

After eagling the second hole, Harman dropped a shot at the fifth, but five birdies in eight holes helped him secure a one-shot victory.

The Open, which will be held at Royal Liverpool, begins on Thursday, 17 July.

Harman said: "I can't wait to get on that plane. This win has given me a lot of confidence."

Venezuela's Jhonattan Vegas and American Jerry Kelly shared third place, while South Africa's Tim Clark and American Scott Brown tied for fifth.
