Sergio Garcia will use former French Open tennis champion Juan Carlos Ferrero as his caddie when he defends his Thailand Open title next month.

Ferrero claimed his only Grand Slam with victory at Roland Garros in 2003 and retired in 2012.

"I've played golf with him many times but he never caddied for me before," said Garcia about his fellow Spaniard.

"We just talked about it and he mentioned about it and we decided to do it. He is excited about it."

The Thailand Open takes place between 11-14 December and world number six Garcia faces competition from US Masters champion Bubba Watson, US Open champion Martin Kaymer and former world number ones Lee Westwood and Ernie Els.

Last year, Garcia's girlfriend Katharina Boehm was his caddie as he won the tournament.

"Katharina is fine," added Garcia. "She is happy to step aside and support from the sidelines. It always helps to have a friend on your bag.

"It is good fun to be able to enjoy golf and have a good time with a good close friend."
