Darren Clarke had to settle for a share of 15th place in the Asian Tour's Dubai Open after a closing level-par 72.
The 2011 Open Champion had moved to within one shot of the lead after firing a third-round 64 on Saturday.
India's Arjun Atwal took the title on 16 under after a closing 66 which left him a stroke ahead of South Korean Wang Jeung-Hun at the Els Club.
Scotland's Simon Yates finished in third spot with Clarke ending the tournament seven shots off the pace.
Clarke made a promising start on Sunday as he birdied the first but gave the shot back at the third and could only manage two further birdies in a low-key final round.
Despite dropping down the leaderboard, Clarke appeared encouraged with his week's work after Sunday's round.
"Not the day I was hoping for but it's been a great week here," Clarke said on Twitter.
