Defending champion Jimmy Walker will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the PGA Tour's Sony Open in Hawaii after a superb 62 on day three.

The 36-year-old world number 17 carded 10 birdies, six of which came on his inward nine holes, to reach 16 under.

Fellow American Matt Kuchar, the world number 11, is second after a 68.

Scotland's Russell Knox shares eighth on 10 under after six birdies and five bogeys in a 69, with England's Paul Casey and Brian Davis one further back.

"Somebody is shooting a low round every day, and you never know where it's going to come from," said Walker, who played in 187 PGA Tour events without a win before capturing three titles last year.

Walker, who was tied for the 54-hole lead last week at Kapalua in the Tournament of Champions before losing to Patrick Reed in a play-off, has now returned 13th consecutive under-par round in the Aloha State.

He one-putted his final 11 holes in round three at the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu on Saturday, holing from 20 feet at the 10th and 30 feet at the 16th.

Former world number one Luke Donald carded his best round of the week with four birdies in a 67, but shares 40th place 10 shots off the lead.
