Scotland's Catriona Matthew is three shots off the lead after the second round of the ANA Inspiration - the first major of the season.

The 45-year-old, who won the Women's British Open in 2009, hit a three-under-par 69 to claim a share of third place on four under in California.

South Korea's Sei-Young Kim's 65 gave her a two-shot advantage over overnight leader Morgan Pressel.

Lydia Ko's 73 meant she missed a record 30th consecutive under-par round.

The 17-year-old world number one, who equalled the record in round one, is hoping to become the youngest winner of a women's major.

England's Charley Hull, who was three shots off the lead after the first round, slipped two shots further adrift after going round in 72.

Kim, who won her maiden LPGA Tour title in the Bahamas in February, helped her cause with an eagle at the par-five 18th.

"I really hit the ball good and putted really good," said the 22-year-old, who is playing in only her third major championship. "I'm very happy.

"Yesterday I adjusted my putting - now I see the line better."
