Michael Hoey lies well down field at China Open
Michael Hoey lies well down the field in a tie for 102nd position on four over par after the first round of The China Open in Shanghai.
Hoey's disappointing round included a solitary birdie at the seventh hole and five bogeys.
He lies eight shots off the lead, held jointly by England's David Howell, New Zealander Michael Hendry and Bradley Dredge of Wales.
Ireland's Damien McGrane is joint 25th thanks to an opening level-par 72.
Last week, Hoey finished in a share for 25th place after a strong finish at the Shenzhen International in China.
He has won five European Tour events - most recently the 2013 Russian Open title - but has struggled for form so far in 2015 and before the Shenzhen tournament his best finish had been joint 31st at the Thailand Classic in February.
