Graeme McDowell endured a terrible opening day at the St Jude Classic with a six over par round of 76 in Memphis.
McDowell is 12 shots behind leaders Ryan Palmer and Brooks Koepka of the United States and England's Greg Owen.
The Portrush golfer double-bogeyed the par-three fourth and was five over at the turn at TPC Southwind.
A two at the par-three 11th was his only birdie of the day, and he finished with two bogeys, taking a pair of fives at the par-four 17th and 18th holes.
Padraig Harrington, needing to win the event to secure a place in next week's US Open, also had a disappointing day as five late bogeys saw him signing for a 75.
