It is almost as farcical as having Golf in the Olympics along with Synchronised Swimming and Taekwondo.
Nobody sets up a course to be in bad condition, there is nothing to gain (except publicity). Let's see them back there when the greens are better.Roll on The Open!!!!
Its finished best man won, course was same for everyone,MOVE ON,
@180 Bantam - yeah, the only reason they don't knock it is because it IS St. Andrews, history and all that. And it has some great holes like the 17th and.... Well it has one great hole. It's not great for spectators either. But there you go - sometimes it's great courses, other times it's hallowed turf.
@176 al777 : Yes not sure why USGA get their knickers in a twist if players shoot low scores. Do many knock the Open if the winner is 10 plus under par even if it is on that 'joke' of a course which some ( ' golfers ' ?) call St Andrews !
178. Whisky and ChipsThe back 9 was incredible drama JS a worthy winnerOverall I find it sad that you could only land a ball in a 2m square to leave a 'makeable' putt Poor shots were rewarded & good shots penalised many timesExpected a organisation like the USPGA to deliver better greens & sure there will be quiet changes to make sure this doesn't happen again
@berbearAgree, the surfaces were below standard, but did that affect the quality of the tournament?the best player of the week didn't win, that happens alot and as usual the best putter won
174. Whisky and Chips Agreed Wentworth is slipping down the list of great courses & sponsors/players that want to play there because of this There were complaints about both you mentionBut this was a Major where years of preparation should have gone into making the greens pristine The cream did rise to the surface but there were far too many bad rolls on a poor surface for a Major
@175 Bantam - point taken, but despite all the faults with the course (all we all have opinions on that..) the winning score was still low for a US Open. If all the issues raised were ironed out, the winning score would probably have been double figures below par and that wouldn't have gone down well with the USGA.
Chambers Bay was bordering on Crazy Golf. If you are going to have a fast running links style golf course, one thing you don't want is loads of changing elevations. CB had too many situations where due to severe ups/downs etc, the ball could trundle off and look like it was never going to stop. Bad course design which is a shame !
@BerbearWentworths were as bad a surface and RCD weren't much better...
172. tiffanceIt's a Major If any other competition on the calender provided greens of that quality no one would return The level of criticism has been lower as it was a US win & due to the drama & quality of the golf (tee to green) on the dayAny greenkeeper worth their salt would have known weeks out they were in troubleUSGA wanted Augusta by sea, got it but the greens were disappointing
It's the same course for everyone good or bad greens this is just world class whinging. IC you should give up golf net 91 !!!!
@166 Cottis - all I can say is, look out Dave Pelz, you've got competition...
