Matt Fitzpatrick shot a six-under-par 64 to share the lead with compatriot Danny Willett at the European Masters.
The former world amateur number one, 20, carded eight birdies to reach 12 under overall in Switzerland.
Willett, 27, finished sixth in last week's Open Championship but six dropped shots saw him unable to build on a remarkable round of 62 on Friday, finishing one over in round three.
England's Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia are tied for 16th on five under.
Garcia's impressive 66 on day three at the Crans-sur-Sierre course was only bettered by Fitzpatrick, who is still awaiting his first senior victory since turning professional in 2014.
"I didn't get off to the best of starts with a bogey at the first," said Fitzpatrick, who finished as best amateur at the 2013 Open Championship and 2014 US Open.
"At that point 74 was looking much more likely than 64. "I made a couple of good up and downs to save par at the start of the round which just helps keep the momentum going."
Willett made an eagle on the 15th to salvage a round which saw him drop four shots in the first four holes.
"Golf's not the greatest game when you're feeling a little bit under the weather, but I won't be using it as an excuse," he said.
