Darren Clarke carded a disappointing four over par round of 75 in the opening round of the Australian Open.

The Ryder Cup captain only hit eight pars in a mixed round in Sydney which included six bogeys and two birdies.

The Dungannon man also double-bogeyed the par four seventh hole and eagled the par five 14th.

He is nine shots behind leader Lincoln Tighe from Australia and four shots behind world number one Jordan Speith who is level par after the opening day.
