@88 Digger - it's not misogynistic of DJH to say he prefers men's golf to women's golf. He just prefers it. That's up to him. Do you want to take that choice away from him? Probably you do. Personally i enjoy watching women's golf but I also prefer men's golf. It's nothing to do with validity.
Iain Carter, you must be kidding about golf having missed a glorious opportunity in not getting all its stars to the Olympics.Golf definitely doesn't need the Olympics and the reverse is also true.Further, professional golf doesn't really fit with the spirit of the Olympics. Amateur golf is different, that would be fine.
Ok DiggerSo The Open and Ladies Open are on at the same time, which one would you watch and why?
@ DJH you're just trying to cover up your mysogeny with BS, your comments very much are sexist. It is the fact that you are a mysogenist that makes you unable to see that women's sport is just a valid. If the game of golf is missing anything it's a shortage of young women playing the game & having too many backward thinking old duffers who can't actually play the game.
Well that is me not watching the Ryder Cup...Darren Clarke loses all credibility by announcing professional, whinger, hanger-on and gob shoot Sam Torrance, as a Vice Captain... where will the embarrassment to his Captaincy end?Answer - most likely in a resounding defeat.
I recall a time, not so long ago, when the BBC had influence.Since renouncing it's platform it is a bit rich to present such a piece of patronising bloated mis-information as if were in it's former position. This piece, in particular, has the same standing as if I had the brass neck to commit my mere opinions to print.Where is the editorial control? Is there any?
Although I play and watch golf myself, I do agree with the majority on here who think it should not be an Olympic sport.I will be too busy watching the "proper" Olympic sports to bother with the golf. Then again, if Rose or Willett is leading with a few holes to go my view might change? If I have the choice of men's or ladies major this week then sorry ladies but it will be the men every time.
Exactly Whisky. Why do people so often mistake fact for some form of predudice, racism or sexism. The fact is a reflection of society and doesn't make the individual any of those things. Is society inherently sexist maybe. But is it sexist to suggest women's sports aren't as entertaining? No. Its like suggesting conference football is as good as the premiership. Some may agree, most won't.
@DJHLets not forget, last year the BBC showed Bargain Hunt rather than the last round of The Open...It's a PC stunt and this article is a veiled attempt to advertise the BBC showing an event that barely anyone wants to, or will, watch
Its based on fact, not opinion. The fact is viewing figures for women's sports- including golf- are a fraction they are for men. FACT. Its actually incredibly PC and sexist of the bbc to use tax payers money on something view will watch. It's a exercise in filling a quota if ever ive seen in one. Are you suggesting Digger Jnr that women sport is even close to as popular as men's?? Of course not.
@80 DJH - that's either an astonishingly mysoginistic & misguided attitude or a strawman. I suspect the former because it's too blunt even for a strawman.
