101 Arthur D - Thanks for that, really find the new Callaway Epic Driver adverts very funny. They show Phil Mickleson and Henrik Stenson smashing their new 'Epic' drivers for all this extra distance..Pity it is 30/40 yards offline 50% of the time...! Henrik still using his old three wood and Phil , well loose cannon with a driver..
@ 97 willieAgree, had Tiger Woods been consistent with the driver he would easily have won more majors than any other player, distance control best I've ever seen and great short game.
Hope he doesn't make it, always moaning and complaing about something, most unlikeable, over-rated golfer out there, there's lots of young players on the up now who are more deserving of a place and who might appreciate golf fans around the world a bit more than he ever did. Good riddance, hopefully.
98. Fox - I would love to be 'as poor' a golfer has Ian P, Wow what a life I could have for my family. However, I would certainly try and be a bit more 'likeable' than IP as he is a bit of upstart..
It's astonishing that so many people write about 'limited ability' or 'no ability'. Let's be clear - Ian Poulter is a superb golfer. I wonder how many of the people who have described his ability as being limited would like share his ability. I'm guessing that quite of a few of them would. It's easy to criticise people on a forum; it isn't so easy to win twelve times on the European Tour.
92 - daveyboy ''In my opinion he was never the complete golfer and relied on distance too much '' You are saying that about Tiger Woods-he only had a good long game. really?TW was the best clutch putter on the planet and no-one comes close to all his stats ( Greens In regs, Putts , ) Probably the worst bit about his game was his driving, therefore, Sir I do believe you taking rubbish.
@95.I agree,Formula 1,and all motor 'sport' is not a sport just as golf is not a sport.
#94 wolf359"At last someone who agrees that golf (lower case deliberate) is not a sport"Curious that you feel the need to broadcast that fascinating piece of information. Anyway, good for you, each to their own I suppose. Personally I would not regard Formula 1 as a sport but that's just my opinion which is equally as worthless as yours!
@60.At last someone who agrees that golf (lower case deliberate) is not a sport.I would add Fishing and Hill Walking to the list of non sports.
Was at Birkdale in 2008 and watched him beat everyone bar Harrington and would never have said almost nine years later he would not have won a major..Is probably one of those golfers that is better than some single major winners but will be remembered for his Ryder cup exploits. Think that's a fair summing up
86.willie You are obviously a Tiger fan boy and in his heyday he certainly had an edge on most players. Much of this came from the big distances achieved with the famous left knee snap but he is paying the price now with regular back problems.Nowadays his distance is average & he just can't compete. In my opinion he was never the complete golfer and relied on distance too much. He'll never win again
Can this article be added to the pastime section of the BBC rather than calling it a sport?
