218 The course was a classic toothless links...Woods 79, McIlroy 78, JB Holmes 87, Rose 79, Michelson 75, Stenson 76, Spieth 77, Kuchar 79, Schauffele 78, Garcia 78.....You have never played The Dunluce Course.
Great course at RPGC, great organisation, great winner.Suck it up Knowledge, yet again 0 out of 3 on predictions.Whose the Fool.
Muirfield is the best it's just very sad about the membership, these people once refused Payne Stewart admission as there was some fat OAP sweep on. They also tried to block public access to a public beach and they let a fox hunt rampage over the course ...80 dogs and 40 horses .
Someone call a doctor, Carter didn't mention Tiger.😉
291. The local organisation was superb, I was there on Friday and Saturday, used the park and ride and had zero delays getting in or out either day. Couldn't believe it. My guess is that people who actually went were impressed with the level of organisation, as opposed to those who just looked at it on a map and thought it looked like it might be hard work.
Apologies cubby, think I'll lay down now, must be the heat.
Cubby @289, nearest airport 40 mins drive. City of Derry. Other 2 Airports 1 hr and 1:15 away. Plenty of Air B&B, hotels and hostels around. Local uni opened the halls of residence. The rail company ran express service from Belfast ( plenty of accommodation) direct to Portrush, Then bussed to the course. Not many people from over seas complained, they loved it. Can't please everyone I suppose
281. I have played both courses and stayed at the hotel, and all are excellent, but that's not the point ... it's a parkland course and the Open is always played on links courses, that's why I asked if you were serious.K Club was great for the Ryder Cup and could host something like a WGC, but never the Open.
@287 It's not great access for the main UK population . Where is the nearest main airport ? Last time I was there for the open I had to stay 30 miles away and the price was a shocker.
Met people from all around the world at the Open who had nothing but praise for the traffic logistics, the friendlyness of the people and the reception they received. Royal Portrush has no automatic right to hold an open so soon, but the overall perception gives the R&A food for thought. Players loved the course Get around easily. The winner was NI, we’ve too much negativity we , all Change now.
@278- access to Carnoustie is arguably much better than Old Course- dual carriageway from Dundee, and main East Coast rail line passes through the town. Sorted! I live not far up the coast so maybe am biased, but these are the facts.
Get Carnoustie back in there - have to get the players scowling again!
@284 -Fair comment I have to agree St Andrews is a golf institute and Troon and sandwich are held in high regard and rightly so with the professional golfers. Us mortals won’t change that.
What a huge amount of airy fairy comments . The R and A has made a huge investment in the rota links and all the associated facilities and are not going to be changing anything to suit the current ephoria . Sandwich,St Andrews and then Hoylake and then more than likely Muirfield are places all established to cater for an open and then Birkdale ,Troon and Carnoustie all have to have their dates .
@279 & 281. Portmarnock is similarly outside of the UK and thus not available for consideration.
The K club ??? where next France ? I think Ireland can have their own open anywhere they fancy but possibly best to keep the (British) open within GB & NI .
280) Very serious Sir. Have you played the course? I am lucky enough to have played it on a couple of occasions and its a beautiful course and the setting is amazing. Great access to it from the roads and Dublin airport is only an hour away, no issues with accommodation for the punters loads of local B&Bs and 2/3 star hotels within driving distance. After the weekend just gone its one to consider.
